Why growth catches good owners out
Most restaurants that struggle with expansion are not short of ambition. They are running a business where the system was a person - usually the owner. You tasted the sauce, read the room, spotted the problem before the guest did, and knew from the feel of the store what needed ordering.
None of that transfers to a second location. What worked because of specific people starts to vary the moment those people are somewhere else. A small restaurant and a growing one are genuinely different businesses, and the gap usually shows up as inconsistency long before it shows up in the accounts.
The five things that go wrong
In roughly this order, and usually within the first six months.

Consistency
Portions, prices and recipes drift between branches because they lived in someone's head instead of a system.

Shifts and staff
Scheduling by WhatsApp works for eight people. At twenty five across two sites, hours get disputed and shifts get missed.

Stock and theft
You could feel when stock was wrong in one store. In two, you cannot - and that is exactly when losses start.

Knowing what happened
Two sets of numbers that do not agree, reaching you days late. You end up managing the past instead of today.
What replaces you: one source of truth
The fix is not working harder or hiring a manager you hope thinks like you. It is putting the things that lived in your head into a system every branch shares:
- One menu and one price list, changed once and applied everywhere
- Recipes and portions defined in the system, so a plate in branch two matches branch one
- Staff, roles and shifts in one place, with hours that calculate themselves
- Stock tracked per branch, with variance visible before it becomes a habit
- One live dashboard showing both branches side by side, on your phone
One of our restaurants came to us in exactly this position - they had expanded and found that the way they had always run things simply would not stretch. Software was not a nice-to-have at that point. It was the only way the second site could work without the owner living in it.
Which plan you need
| Where you are | Plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One outlet, running well | Orderly Plus · KSh 10,000 | Ask me what sold and what is low, and get warned before the kitchen falls behind |
| Busy, with several counters | Orderly AI Ultra · KSh 25,000 | More counters and more control |
| A group or a chain | Enterprise · talk to us | A package built around you |
Put the systems in before you open the next branch, not after. Retrofitting while running two sites is far harder than starting with them.
See what to buy before you run out.
