Monthly or Annual Licence: Which Works Out Cheaper?

Annual licences cost ten months for twelve. Here is the actual maths per plan, and when paying monthly still makes more sense.

Orderly is sold monthly or annually. Annual is cheaper - but cheaper is not automatically the right answer for a business watching its cash.

The maths

Annual licences are priced at ten months for twelve. Two months free, paid up front.

On Growth, the saving is a fortnight of software for free every year. On Enterprise across three branches it is KES 150,000.

When annual is clearly right

You have been trading long enough to know your quiet months. You are confident about the next year. You would rather deal with this once than think about it twelve times. And you have the cash available without straining anything else.

When monthly is the sensible choice

Cash is tight. A restaurant that needs its cash for stock this week should keep it for stock. The saving is real but it is not worth creating a cash flow problem.

You are brand new. If you opened last month, pay monthly until you know your own numbers.

The business is seasonal or uncertain. Flexibility has a value that does not show up in the table above.

What does not change either way

There is no minimum contract and no termination fee on either option. Monthly customers are not on a worse product or slower support - the only difference is the price and when you pay it. You can also start monthly and switch to annual at any point.

A middle path

Plenty of restaurants start monthly, run for a full quarter, and move to annual at renewal once they have seen the system through a busy period and a quiet one. That is a perfectly sensible way to do it.
